The LIE:
These pot bellied pigs will weigh less than 35 lbs. when full-grown.
The TRUTH: On average a full-grown pot bellied
pig will weigh between 125 to 150 lbs. Many will top 250 lbs.!
The LIE:
Look at how tiny the parents are
YOUR pig will stay small, just like these.
The TRUTH: Females can become mothers by the age
of months, while boars can successfully breed by the time they are months old.
The fact that the parents appear small doesn't guarantee the size of their offspring,
in any case. It is only one indication of probable size, with many other factors
coming into play to determine the final conformation of the pig.
The LIE:
These are a new breed of micro-minis, and will stay small.
The TRUTH: There is NO SUCH THING as a micro-mini
pig. Unscrupulous breeders make these claims, and sometimes even starve their
pigs in an attempt to keep them from growing too large.
The LIE:
If you don't like him, you can always eat him.
The TRUTH: Pot bellied pigs are very fatty and
their meat does not appeal to our western tastes.
