Ice and Snow and Out We GO!

There must be a pigsweight of seeds in the snow under the feeder now as I
haven't been able to do my cleanup duty since before Christmas. It's been unusually cold here on the West Coast and Maggie said the snow is deeper than the top of my head (about 12") and still coming down.

Maggie was worried about the birds because the backyard feeder was empty and the birds are hungry, so she shoveled a path out to it this morning. The office door was left open for a little fresh air, so of course I followed her outside. She must have thought I would shirk feeder duty, and didn't know I was behind her. When I gronked and nudged her heel to make her shovel faster, she jumped straight up and had to jackknife to avoid stepping on me!

By the time she picked herself up out of the snowbank I had made my way out to the feeder and started to root in that cold, cold snow to find the seeds. It seemed like only a minute later I was shivering and my little trotters were turning blue, so I had to run back into the house to warm up. Maggie saw me coming and got out of the way REAL fast. When I got to the door I looked back and the birds were already starting to feast. I'm sure I saw them smiling at me. Maggie felt sorry for me 'cause I was so cold and brought me some warm turkey noodle soup. We snuggled in the armchair till we both drifted off to sleep to dream of Spring days and fresh green grass.

wishing you warm soup and a good friend on cold days,
